Introducing the New Macbook Pro

Today Apple announced the update to their Macbook Pro line of computers. This update focuses on adding speed and includes the addition of a brand new connection style called “Thunderbolt”.

Processors

The New Macbook Pro family received a significant boost in performance thanks to Intel’s newest chipset. Even the base model 13-inch features an Intel Core i5, a feature that was only available on the 15-inch Macbook Pros. Intel’s Core i5 features advanced improvements like Turbo Boost 2.0, which allows your processor to speed itself up when you really need that power. They also include Hyper-Threading, an Intel technology for increasing the amount of data sent to the processor and providing you with even faster speeds.

The 15-inch Macbook Pro now feature a quad-core processor, offering you even faster performance when needed. The Intel Core i7 processor also features Turbo Boost and Hyper Threading functionality.

Graphics

Apple also improved the graphics processors on the Macbook Pros. The 13-inch feature an Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor (GPU) which provides faster graphics processing while still consuming only a small amount of power. For the 15-inch, Apple is offering new AMD Radeon HD graphics processors which offer 3x the performance of the previous graphic processor.

Thunderbolt

Offering speeds more than 20 times faster than USB 2.0, Thunderbolt is one of the fastest ways to transfer files on your Macbook Pro. It offers speeds needed for editing an HD feature film in real time, or transferring large amounts of data quickly. Thunderbolt also allow you to plug your Macbook Pro directly into an Apple Cinema Display or an additional monitor. In fact, you can use your existing Mini DisplayPort adapters and peripherals with the Thunderbolt port.

Battery

While the New Macbook Pro offers you a tremendous amount of power, it also has an incredibly long-lasting battery. Enjoy up to 7 hours of web browsing on a single charge. Apple also is included their automatic graphics switching technology on the 15-inch and 17-inch models, allowing the system to determine which graphics card (low power vs high) you need based off what programs you are using.

…and so much more.

The New Macbook Pro’s are faster, more energy efficient, and add new features like Thunderbolt. With so many different models and options to choose from, stop by your local CapeMac store for help on making the right decision.
