There are a lot of options out there for radio apps. Most local stations now have their own apps which allow you to tune into your home news or music from anywhere in the world, but unless you want pages of radio apps you need something a little more inclusive. A personal favorite for us is tunein radio.

First, the details! TuneIn comes in two flavors, a free version (with ads) and a paid version (without, plus with some extra features). The paid version costs $4.99, so give the free version a whirl before committing. It requires iOS 4.3 or later and runs on iPhone, iPod or iPad.

Why we like it: It uses your location (optional) to tune into your local radio stations automatically, but you can also search for almost any radio station across the world. Are you far away from home and miss your local radio personalities? You can easily find the station with a search of the call letters or city — worldwide. You can also listen to internet only radio stations. You can set favorites, and can record upcoming shows or current shows.
